About
The Story of Henry Blacksmith is the story of a new kind of manhood and its expression through clothing that strikes a creative balance between homegrown style and robust comfort.
This is for the man of character. Fired by his own soul, he serves the soul of the world. Taking his place at the table of men, a brotherhood who reveal both confidence and vulnerability.
Henry Blacksmith integrates:
The personal passion of Marcel Henry, an architect with an eye for precision and beauty, who returns to his family roots in tailoring with Blacksmith, inspired by the archetypal energy of transformation and the crafting of earth’s raw materials into items of timeless value.
Our Vision is to craft stylish, robust and comfortable garments with a distinctly local feel for soulful men of character, and to ignite the South African clothing industry’s pride in its high-quality offering.
The Muse
The inspiration for the WORKWEAR range “arrived” while painting a portrait of Frederick Douglass, the leader of the abolitionist movement for African-American civil rights. Painted in blue, his journey expresses the challenge of overcoming adversity and class struggles. The “blue collar” workwear is the first installment of Henry Blacksmith and begins with a respectful nod to the working class and the creation of functional and stylish workwear.
